For Matt, photography has become an integral part of his everyday life. Drawn to the urban environment he prolifically documents the frail beauty of once lived-in spaces. He has developed a certain fondness for derelict buildings that have fallen into disrepair and concede to mother nature. His photography breathes new life recalling the once utopian beauty into beloved historical buildings.
Matt’s images are highly formal in composition, they are often symmetrically balanced and at times so tightly cropped that they verge on abstraction. More often than not, the scene is void of the human figure making them feel like a vision of a dystopian future, when a figure is present, they are often unidentifiable with their back to camera to mimic the lone survivor.
