Abattoir of the North

The derelict meat works since abandoned at the entrance of this small town. According to a local, when a New South Whales company purchased this abattoir, the Queensland Government gave them a grant to upgrade the facilities equipment. Once the company received the grant, they went into receivership in 2007 and spent the money on their New South Whales abattoir.

The large site consists of several areas such as killing floors, cold storage space that spans over two levels, conveyor belts that transport meat throughout the factory, showers and an administrative building. The site has two entrances, one of them is a long driveway that leads to the loading docks and small substation.

The plant was recently sold to Australia’s second largest beef processing company, although there have been no plans to reopen the abattoir.
